Frequently Asked Questions

What Should My Child Wear?

In any activity, you will perform better and accomplish more if you are dressed appropriately.

Leotards (body suits) are the preferred dress for girls.  It does not matter whether it is long sleeved, short-sleeved, or no sleeved.  Wearing shorts over the leotard is permissible as long as they will give and not rip when stretched.  In lieu of a leotard, shorts and t-shirts can be worn if necessary.  However, the t-shirt needs to be sized according to the child ,and must be long enough to be tucked in.  In the colder months, sweatpants are recommended.  Socks are also recommended for beginner students during cold months.  Girls should also have their hair pulled back out of their face and secured at the base of the neck with a soft hair scrunchie (french braiding is great also).  Not being able to see while tumbling is definitely a hindrance, as is having hard hair clamps or pony tails on the top of the head to roll over.

Boys should wear a t-shirt appropriate to the size of the student and shorts that stretch.  The t-shirt should be tucked in, or safety-pinned inside to the shorts.  Denim shorts are a hindrance, since they do not stretch.  Sweat clothes are recommended for the winter months.

What do Parents Do During Class Time?

Ideally, your child will pay attention better and act more mature if you do not stay during your child’s class time.  Forty-five minutes is just about enough time to run a quick errand without the kids.

However, if you must stay, we ask that you wait in the parent waiting room.  At no time should parents be in the teaching areas of the gym. This is a distraction to both the children and the coach which will minimize learning and increase the risk of injury.  Brothers and sisters of our students should wait quietly with the parents, and not be allowed to run around, or play on the equipment.  The only people allowed on the equipment is the students enrolled in our program, and then only during their specific class time.

Miscellaneous Info.

1.  No food or drinks should be brought into the gym.  A water bottle or gatorade product is permitted.  However, you need to take them home with you or throw them away at the end of the class

2.  No gum. This is a health hazard while tumbling.

3.  Students coming in for class should wait in the parent waiting areas.

4.  Students are not allowed on the equipment unless it is their class time and the instructor is present and gives them permission.

5.  Fingernails should be kept short and clean.  Coach Stewart  had an eye injury once by catching a long fingernail in the white of the   eye.

6.  No jewelry, rings etc...Sooner or later they get in the way or scratch the spotter.

7.  Phone calls are not allowed (both incoming and outgoing).  This applies to the counter phone and personal cell phones.  Students should turn cell phones off or on silent.  Text messaging is not allowed during class time.  The business phone can be used in extreme cases with the coaches permission.

8.  We observe all statewide school holidays.  This   makes is possible for everyone to be free to spend time with their families.

9.  Bad Weather?  In case of bad weather, please listen to the local radio stations to find out if the gym will be closed.  We haven't had to close very many times in the last 15 years.  However, we would rather everyone stay safe and not try to get out during inclement weather.
